2023: Mujin’s Landmark Year in Review

December 27, 2023

As 2023 draws to a close, Mujin reflects on a year marked by steady progress and meaningful advancements in robotics and automation. This year, our team has significantly influenced the industry with a consistent dedication to innovation. We’ve made strides in enhancing warehouse processes and introducing autonomous solutions, marking key milestones in Mujin’s journey this year. Join us as we explore the pivotal developments that have defined our narrative at Mujin throughout 2023.

Robotic Symphony in Vegas: Elevating Order Fulfillment

In the lights of Las Vegas, Mujin was the center of attention at Manifest with the latest in Robotic Order Fulfillment. Showcasing the powerful collaboration between Mujin and Geek+, robot arms and mobile robots worked seamlessly together to fulfill orders.  From toys to toiletries, robots picked products and packed orders for three days straight.

Mujin on Stage

2023 brought many opportunities for Mujin to take the stage across the globe. Mujin Co-founder and CTO, Ross Diankov took part in an expert panel titled “You Are Ready for Robots in the Warehouse” featuring industry leaders from Walmart, Fanuc, and Geek+.

In Japan, Issei Takino, Mujin Co-founder and CEO, had many opportunities to talk about Mujin’s technology. He spoke at the World Marketing Summit, delivered a speech at the “Start Up Everywhere” business conference, was featured on BBC StoryWorks, appeared on “Channel Japan by Nikkei,” and gave a special lecture at the “Industry Forum Summer 2023” during the Manufacturing, Energy, and Logistics Day in Japan.

TruckBot: Redefining Automation in Unloading Operations

In a move that addresses one of the largest supply chain bottlenecks, Mujin unveiled TruckBot, an autonomous robot for unloading truck trailers and shipping containers, at ProMat 2023. TruckBot’s unique design allows it to process over 1,000 cases per hour, surpassing the manual capacity of most current operations. TruckBot attaches to standard telescoping conveyors, reaches 52 feet into trailers, and operates autonomously, powered by the MujinController platform. It can be paired with a palletizing system, which can sort and load cases onto pallets to further enhance inbound operations.

Automate x Your Warehouse

Mujin made its debut at Automate, North America’s largest trade show for industrial automation. There, the team demonstrated the remarkable capabilities of the Mujin Controller platform as a hardware agnostic, universal robot controller. With its real-time digital twin and user-friendly interface, the MujinController platform simplifies the setup process for any robotic application, and its power was on full display controlling robots from six different manufacturers (FANUC, ABB, Yaskawa Motoman, KUKA, Kawasaki Robotics, and Geek+) in a variety of automated tasks. Automation integrators and robot end users in the manufacturing and logistics sectors no longer need to be burdened with lengthy deployments and complicated coding. Rather, their operations can be streamlined by using one zero teach platform and any hardware of their choice to tackle every application in the factory or warehouse.

Series C Funding: Empowering Mujin’s Vision with $104 Million

The resounding success of Mujin’s Series C funding round of $104 million is a testament to the industry’s confidence in Mujin’s transformative technologies. The investment aims to accelerate robotic automation globally by enhancing accessibility to the MujinController platform. This platform transforms industrial robots into intelligent machines, facilitating faster, cost-effective, and reliable automation across manufacturing and logistics.

Mujin at the International Robot Exhibition in Tokyo

At iREX2023, Mujin unveiled its latest array of six solutions, aligning with the exhibition’s theme of “Intelligent Automation for DX in the Era of Variant Variables.” These innovations encompassed fresh UI designs, seven robotic systems, and twelve AGVs. Against the backdrop of challenges such as labor shortages, rising wages, escalating logistics expenses, and growing concerns about technology leaks, these cutting-edge solutions took center stage.

The iREX2023 booth emerged as a nexus of innovation, marking Mujin’s transition into the realm of “Intelligent Automation.” Drawing a diverse audience eager to witness the most recent advancements, the booth solidified Mujin’s standing as a pioneering force in the industry.

Mujin in Europe Unveiled: A Strategic Global Expansion

Marking a strategic milestone, Mujin ventured into new territory with the launch of Mujin in Europe. The inaugural European office in Eindhoven, Netherlands, signals a transformative journey, strategically positioned for widespread automation adoption on a global scale. The Netherlands’ innovation and logistics prominence make it an ideal backdrop for Mujin’s European headquarters, focusing on sales, customer support, and tailored solution development. Led by Mujin Europe’s CEO Lukasz Drewnowski, Mujin aims to meet high European standards and anticipates becoming the top choice for automation solutions worldwide. Mujin’s advanced robotic solutions address Europe’s growing appetite for intelligent automation.

Here at the end of 2023, Mujin stands as a leader in technological innovation, having achieved significant milestones and strategic progress this year. The achievements of 2023 are not merely historical records for the company, but foundations for future endeavors. Driven by an unwavering spirit of innovation and a commitment to excellence, the journey at Mujin continues to evolve and influence the automation and robotics industry. We look forward with great anticipation to the future, eager to unveil the next phase of technological advancements that Mujin is set to bring to the industry.
